Affordable Homes Programme boost for wood fibre insulation

A major change to the UK Government’s Affordable Homes Programme 2021-26 (AHP) was announced in June, allowing grant funding provided through the scheme to be used to fund replacement homes, alongside new affordable homes, as part of wider estate regeneration plans. The £11.5Bn scheme already requires 25% of homes delivered through Strategic Partnerships to deliver a minimum of 25% of homes use modern methods of construction (MMC).
To determine the proportion of homes being delivering using MMC, the Government has adopted Pre-Manufactured Value (PMV) as a key measurement metric. Industry experts assert that closed panel timber frames are one of the best ways to ensure a high PMV return. Timber and wood fibre are renewable, natural insulators and store carbon dioxide for the duration of the panel’s lifetime, reducing the carbon cost of a new-build property with less embodied carbon and more carbon capture.
